Q7- Reasons for Suspension and withdrawal of Class.

Answer

Class suspension following a decision made by the society when : 1.Ship not operated in compliance with class rule requirements.

2.Ship proceeds to sea with less freeboard than that assigned.

3.When the owner fails to request a survey after having detected defects/damages affecting class 4.Repairs/ alterations or conversions are carried out without requesting the attendance of a surveyor.

Class Automatic suspension:
1.When the annual/ intermediate surveys have not been completed by their due dates or window periods. 2.Renewal survey not completed by the due date or the window period, unless the ship is under attendance with a view to completion prior to resuming trading.

3.When the COC/ recommendation is not dealt with within the time limit specified, unless it is postponed before due date by agreement with society.

4.One or more other surveys not held by their due dates, or the dates stipulated by the society taking into account extensions.

5.When due to the nature of the defects, the society considers the ship unfit to retain class even on a temporary basis(pending repairs, renewals etc.)
6.In other circumstances where the owner fails to submit the ship to a survey in accordance with a special requirement.

Class Withdrawal :
1.If requested by the owner.

2.Suspension for more than 6 months.

3.In case of Constructive Total Loss, and the owner does not advise his intention to repair the ship for reinstatement.

4.Ship is reported lost
5.Ship will not trade further as declared by the owner.

Class Deletion:-
1. It is ruined by scrapping or
2. It sinks to unfathomable depths or
3. It is damaged due to grounding or structural failure or due to effects of war or sabotage.

4. It is abandoned by the owner
5. Vessels class will be deleted when it ceases to exist.
