MEO Class 1 · Study guide
Free MEO Class 1 resources and official references
Use public study notes to organise revision, then check the source behind any regulatory statement. This page provides a reference workflow for MEO Class 1 candidates, including those preparing at Mumbai MMD.
Read the portal’s public study notes
The homepage displays the latest published free note and a “Study Notes & Information” list. Select a title there to read its content. The “Exam Preview, Syllabus & Sea Service” control opens the existing information tab. These live notes require JavaScript and a working connection. This reference guide remains readable without JavaScript.
DG Shipping: Indian examination information
Start with the Directorate General of Shipping website for Indian examination notices and applicable circulars. Check the document’s issue date, subject, amendments and any superseding notice. For an examination at Mumbai MMD, confirm the instructions that apply to your examination and application.
IMO: conventions and source documents
The IMO Maritime Knowledge Centre provides access to maritime information resources, including an index of IMO resolutions and guidance on finding IMO information. Use it to locate the source behind a reference in a study answer.
Record the full instrument name, resolution or circular number and the relevant provision. Where an amendment is involved, check both the original requirement and the amending text. An explanatory web page can help you understand a topic, but the applicable instrument is needed when quoting a precise requirement.
Keep a source record for each topic
- Reference: title, issuing body and document number.
- Timing: issue, adoption and entry-into-force dates, where relevant.
- Applicability: ship type, tonnage, construction date, voyage or other stated conditions.
- Evidence: the provision supporting the answer and a link or page reference.
- Review: date checked and any later amendment to revisit.
Turn a reference into a written answer
Summarise the purpose first, then explain the requirement and its practical effect on board. Keep official requirements separate from company procedures and your own examples. Follow the written exam study guide to organise practice and compare your response with a model answer.
