- Raise General Emergency Alarm and Press Engineers Call.
- Make sure that all heads are accounted for.
- Follow Companies contingency plan- imp for Gupta sir
- Manoeuvre as appropriate / Stop engine until the situation has been assessed.
- Assess the situation for risks of Fire, Structural Damage, Pollution and accordingly respective company checklist
has to be used according to the situation.
- Change over sea chest as applicable.
- Broadcast Urgency or distress message, if appropriate.
- Teams have to be formed as per company checklist.
Team 1- Start AE
Team 2 – Check External pollution
Team 3 – Check ER condition - damage to hull, pipelines
- Check Engine room for any leak.
- Check extent of damage to side shell of Engine Room if it is above or below waterline.
- Inspect all fuel / Steam lines for damage at regular intervals
- Meanwhile one team to close all weather tight, Water tight ad fire doors.
- When required cool down the impact area in machinery space to prevent fire breakout.
- Sound all Double bottom tanks in Engine room regularly.
- Check the damage & ascertain rate of flooding. Check Beaching possibilities to prevent sinking.
- Prepare lifeboat for embarkation if applicable.
- Meanwhile during the course of actions reporting to Company, Flag state, Nearest Coastal state, Class, H &
M, P&l, MRCC is to be carried out.
- Company will form Emergency Response Team at shore office.
- Collect Evidence – Time, Photo of damaged Area, C/E & Master Statement, Entry into E/R Logbook, Alarm
logs, Sounding logs, any damaged system, Fuel Oil figures at the time of damage & before damage to ensure all oil remained on board & nothing went to water
Paper work-
- All actions taken to be updated in log nook.
- ORB code (g) if emergency bilge suction used
- P&l and H & M to be informed to assign surveyor to determine probable fault, proximate cause.
- Class has to be requested for surveyor to assess damage & instruct on repairs required.
- CE to prepare report of facts & fwd all necessary Documentation to P&l , H & M & Flag for casualty Investig
ation.
