1.Safety of the people being the first priority here- medical attention to be given to the C/E including medical first aid and hospital visit if required. Other ER personnel to be checked for medical fitness.
2.Inform company and Flag, Class, Port authorities.
3.I presume I had been given Handing over Notes and important information is all included there.
4.If no handing over report, then refer last handing over report, Tech Suptd, Master, 2/E will assist in taking over the vessel.
5.If all statutory items (both machineries and certificates) in place, I’ll take over and do all joining formalities with master like submitting docs and signing the article. Will take safety fam and workplace fam.
6.Carry out an initial investigation with the 2/E about the Incident and preserve facts with pictures or records.RCA and damage assessment. Accident Report. CA/ PA
7.Carry out crankcase inspection and record deflections. Verify bearings intact (any presence of white metal etc)
8.Inform underwriters.
9.Prepare for H & M claim- Engine Logbook, Performance Reports, Alarm record, Proof of last safeties try out, PMS records, OEM spares record, statement from Duty Engr, motorman, if C/E is able to -then his statement (recorded can also do), Onboard and Lab Lube Oil test reports, PMS.

11.Carry out an extra ordinary safety meeting. Boost the morale of the crew and prioritize jobs only for safe operations at port.
12.Prepare Work/ Rest plan in view of extensive investigation/ PSC and repairs etc.
13.Meanwhile the cargo operations complete, confirm with office for next step- i.e. restoration plan for the Main Engine- whether on the same port or to be towed to a repairyard etc.
14.Carry out additional RA for Main Engine out of operation at port. Special attention to moorings, sea condition as no engine available. Prepare MOC.
