Answer
A-Msc 402(96) talks about the lifeboat maintenance. Normally weekly and monthly maintenance can be carried out by ship’s Crew . But for annual and renewal maintenance has to be done by authorized workshop.
Annual-
1.The lifeboat engine should be tried out in ahead and astern direction 2.The batteries should be checked ime the terminal voltage
3.Also the steering should be checked in port and stbd direction 4.Also the emergency tiller should be checked.
5.Bilge pump is functional should be checked and all lights in the lifeboat should be checked
6.Food and water pyro techniques and other things should be checked
7.The onload offload mechanism should be checked
8.Also the lowering speed should not be less than 0.4+0.02H [H- height in metres from davit from waterline at lightship condition]
Davit-
1.On the davit the oil level should be proper
2.The general condition should be good.
3.There should be no corossion
4.Limit switches should be checked
5.The condition of wire rope and the sheeves should be in good condition.
Periodic-
Static Test-
1.1.5 times the load of the lifeboat along with all its appendages should be taken 2.The pulleys should rotated maximum toward sthe backwards
3.And brake should be applied
4.The lifeboat should not go down
Dynamic-
1.1.1 times the weight of the boat along with its appendages should be taken and then it should be allowed to fall through a ht of 3 m and then brake should be applied. Then it should not go more than 1m down i.e the creep should not be more than 1 m
Davit load test- the davit should be tested 2.2 times its working load
Renewal-
Wire Rope renewal- Renewed every 5 years.
Hydraulic hoses and associated couplings- 5yearly.
