Answer
Under Section 10 of the ISM Code (Maintenance of the Ship and Equipment), companies must identify equipment and technical systems whose sudden operational failure could result in hazardous situations, accidents, or immediate environmental pollution.
Who Prepares It?
The preparation is a collaborative effort between shipboard management and corporate technical teams:
The Technical Superintendent / DPA (Company Side): Drafts the baseline corporate template based on sister-ship operating histories, manufacturer technical bulletins, classification society inputs, and risk assessment models.
The Chief Engineer (Shipboard Side): Reviews, customizes, and finalizes the specific list onboard. The Chief Engineer ensures that unique machinery variations, current operational wear, and actual on-site inventories match the corporate asset management framework.
