Q4. What are type B+ ships?

Answer

Cargo ships with increased freeboard on account of hatch cover arrangement. B+ ships conditions 

a. Well lighted & ventilated under-Deck passageway, as close as possible to the freeboard Deck

b. Permanent & efficiently constructed gangway, fitted at or above the superstructure Deck

c. A permanent walkway at least 0.6m in width, at freeboard Deck level

i) At or near the centerline

ii) Fitted on each side of ship

iii) Fitted on one side only

d. A wire rope lifeline not less than 10 mm diameter supported by stanchions not more than 10 m apart.

i) At or near the centerline

ii) Fitted on each side of ship

iii) If fitted on one side, provisions being made for fitting on either side.

e. A permanent gangway located

i) At or above the level of superstructure Deck.

ii) At or near the centerline of the ship

f. A permanent walkway located at the freeboard Deck level, at or near the centerline of the ship.
