There are 4 Tables in the Guidelines and 2 Appendices in the Convention which can be used to develop the IHM parts I, II and III.
• Table A – Contains materials listed in Appendix 1 of the convention - IHM Part I.

• Table B – Comprises materials listed in Appendix 2 of the convention - IHM Part I.

The following procedure is followed:
1.Collection of necessary information - Collection of Material declarations from manufacturers, Ship yards, Suppliers etc. Collect Drawings, plans, Fire control plan, Insulation plan, Piping arrangement, Paint specifications, machinery manuals etc where you may find hazardous materials installed. Haz Mat inventories or recycling information from sister ships.
2.Assessment of collected information - Assessment should cover all materials listed in table A of Appendix 1; materials listed in Table B as far as practicable.
3.Preparation of visual/sampling check plan - Identify the locations, list them and list the precautions before actual sampling.
4.Onboard visual check and sampling check; and
5.Preparation of Part I of the Inventory and related Documentation.
