EDD scheme.: Extended Drydock Scheme.
• It is applicable upto 15 yrs of vessel age and not applicable after 15 yrs.
• So in EDD vessel goes 2 times in Drydock in 15 yrs, while other vessel goes 3 times in 15 yrs.
• It comes under SOLAS Chp-1 ,Reg 10 where it states that:
Minimum 2 inspections of ships bottom to be carried out in 5 yrs period but didn’t specify that the vessel should be in DD out of water.Thus this requirement fulfills the IWS twice in 5 yrs .
• As per IACS recommendation no.133,for EDD ships : A minimum of 2 inspections to be carried out outside of
ships bottom during the renewal period of 5 yrs and the intervals between any 2 inspections should not exceed 36 months.
• It is upto Admin to allow EDD scheme .India don’t allow EDD scheme for ships register under it.
• Thus the vessel following EDD will do 2 consecutive In water survey (one at 2.5 yrs and other one- 5 yr)and
on this basis Statuatory and Class survey will be done at 5yrs interval.and after 7.5 yrsvesl will go to DD.
• ESP vessel doesn’t Qualify for EDD scheme
For EDD
1.Ship should have IWS notation
2.Paint makers guarantee that paint will remain good till the next DD
3.Provision for maintainance during operation on a.Anodes
b.Overboard valves
c.Speed log, echo sounder and draft gauges
4.T-mon file should be there
