A- Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships is an acronym or regulatory framework being developed or used by

the IMO to describe commercial vessels that operate with little or no human intervention, using sensors, software & communctn systems to navig ate, avoid collisions & perform the tasks & functions of the vessel, using advanced tech.

- The code aims to ensure these ships operate safely, efficiently & in harmony with conventional vessels.

- MASS Classification-

1.Degree one – Ship with automated processes& decision support. Seafarers are on board to operate & control shipboard systems & functions. Some operations may be automated & at times, unsupervised

but with seafarers onboard ready to take control.

2.Degree two – Remotely contrld ship with seafarer on board. The ship is controlled & operated from

another location

3.Degree three – Remotely controlled ship without seafarers onboard. The ship is controlled and operated from

another location, but no seafarer onboard.

4.Degree four – Fully autonomous ship and the operating system of the side is able to make decisions actions by itself.
