A – Main emphasis will be laid on the items that can be taken over only from outgoing CE.
1.I presume that I had been given timely handing over notes by the company and I had understood the survey and Audit scheme for upcoming months especially anything needs to be done at or before the next port of call, make and model of the ER machineries, especially Main Engine.
2.Carry out a personal RA for short time take over.
3.Ensure that you have all your Documents submitted to master, such as your contract, certificates and identification.
4.Ensure Safety familiarization is done- including Muster duties.
5.Ensure Work place familiarization is done.
6.Communicate with 2/E and other staff to establish rapport and understand the current status of the operations and departure plans.
7.In the mean time confirm with outgoing C/E that all records are up to date with his signatures.
8.Take a quick round of the Main Engine with CE, learn Emcy operation, limits overriding, unit cutout etc. and similar emcy operations. Confirm any recurrent alarms/ difficulties during maneuvering. The intention is safe departure from the port. If possible, try out main engine with CE.
9.Take over all the keys- especially OWS ovbd key, ORB, all records, passwords for Main Engine, PC, PMS etc.
10.Attend BTM with master, discuss C/P speed and fuel cons. for the Voyage and discuss departure plans with Er team to arrange work/rest accordingly.
11.Let 4/E confirm HFO/ LSMGO/ Lubes/ Bilge/ Sludge exact quantities and confirm with ORB/ Er Logbook, confirm with Tech Suptd. And amend if required.
12.Confirm any Repair order/ Spare or store orders that urgently need to be raised or followed up for next port.
13.Any open communication with office that requires immediate attention.
14.Once the vessel departs, you can find out remaining things from 2/E/ Office.
15.Quickly assess any ongoing maintenance or technical issues and prioritize tasks accordingly.
16.Be organized and proactive from day 1 in managing the responsibilities.
17.Take short taking over notes from signing off chief engineer if time permits.
