Initial investigation to be reported to the Company to seek approval for maintenance.
Toolbox meeting, Risk assessment carried out with additional fire prevention measures. Once approval is sought, efforts to be made to make the pump operational.
Shore workshop/ makers support/urgent spares through agents can be arranged if required.
If the maintenance makes the pump operational, then we can report back to the Company about the same.
If we cannot repair the pump,
Carry out RCA, RA
Report to the Company, flag, Class, [next Port of call (if mid-sea)] Seek dispensation and COC.
Suggest CA/ PA
Portable Emergency pump connected to ESBD, can be used a temporary measure, we need to prepare an MOC.
[capacity of the portable pump to be either identical to onboard emcy pump or in compliance with FFA code] Suction can be taken from Aft Peak Tank.
PMS overhaul interval for testing/ overhaul period to be reconsidered. Job responsibility can be shifted to a senior engineer.
Sufficient spares to be retained all the time.
After permanent repair is done, same to be reported back to lift up the dispensation and COC.

Fully conversant with SMS means the ability to navig ate through the whole SMS without any difficulty.
It indicates high level of proficiency and competency in understanding and adhering to the SMS to safety of ship, its crew and marine environment.
