Answer
Who Sets KPIs?
KPI means Key Performance Indicator. In ISM/SMS, KPIs are normally set by the Company shore management, such as top management, HSEQ / Marine department, DPA, and technical management team. Ship staff may give feedback, but the final KPI targets are usually decided by the Company. Examples of KPIs:
Number of accidents / LTIs
Number of near misses reported
Number of non-conformities
PSC deficiencies
Audit findings closure time
Drill performance
Planned maintenance completion
Training completion
Overdue risk assessments / permits
Pollution incidents or spills
