Answer
since I am newly joined and the next port has the 2nd annual SEQ survey, first I will check the Cargo Ship Safety Equipment Certificate, anniversary date, Form E, previous survey report and any outstanding statutory recommendation. Then I will prepare all FFA and LSA—main and emergency fire pumps, fire main, extinguishers, fixed CO₂ system, fire detection, SCBA/EEBD, lifeboats, rescue boat, davits and release gear, liferafts, lifejackets, immersion suits, lifebuoys and pyrotechnics. I will verify all annual servicing certificates and expiry dates and carry out operational tests of emergency alarms, emergency fire pump, quick-closing valves, ventilation shutdowns, dampers and emergency arrangements. Finally, I will conduct a pre-survey inspection with my officers and rectify deficiencies before the surveyor attends.
Main items I will prepare:
- Fire-fighting: Main fire pump, emergency fire pump, fire main, hydrants, hoses, nozzles, portable extinguishers, fixed CO₂/foam/water-mist system, fire detection and alarms.
- Fireman’s equipment: SCBA, spare cylinders/recharging arrangement, EEBDs, fireman’s outfits and communication sets.
- LSA: Lifeboats, rescue boat, engines, davits, winches, falls, release gear, liferafts, HRUs, lifejackets, immersion suits, lifebuoys, line-throwing appliance and pyrotechnics.
- Emergency arrangements: Emg generator, General alarm, PA system, emergency lighting, quick-closing valves, fuel-pump shutdown, ventilation shutdown and fire dampers.
- Escape/fire integrity: Engine-room escape routes, fire doors, escape trunks and emergency exits.
