MEO CLASS 1 · ORAL QUESTION 34

When does a Flag carries out survey? How to prepare? Scope of survey?

Answer

Flag state Inspections (FS|) are used by Flag states to ensure satisfactory standards are being maintained on board vessels flying their flag.

These inspections are carried out by approved Flag state Inspectors and include verification of statutory Documentation and a general examination of the vessel’s structure, machinery, and equipment.

Additionally, a more thorough inspection and/or operational testing of firefighting equipment, lifesaving appliances, and safety equipment is conducted during these inspections12.

The purpose of Flag state inspections is to ensure compliance with international conventions that the Flag state has ratified, covering areas such as safety, pollution prevention, and crew working conditions.
