Answer
A – Common Structural Rules
- These are a comprehensive set of minimum requirements established by IACS for the classification of hull
structures of Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers.
- These rules aim to standardize safety and Structural integrity standards across the shipping industry, making
ships safer, more robust and streamlining regulatory compliance for owners & shipbuilders
- They set min Structural standards for Critical aspects like global & local strength, fatig resstnce, corrosion protctn,
material select etc.
- Objectives – Safety, Envrnmntal Protctn
- These rules will also comply with SOLAS Ch II-1 Regulation 3-10 Goal Based Ship construction standards for
Bulk Carriers and Oil tankers
- It consists of 2 parts-
Part-1 - Requirements common to both Double hull Oil Tankers and Bulk Carriers. Part-2 – Additional requirements applied to either Double hull Oil tankers or Bulk Carriers.
Earlier it was for Oil tankers CSR-OT and Bulk Carriers CSR- BC separately, now it is combined for both CSR- BC&OT Benefits of CSR BC (90m or above) & OT (150m or above)-
1.Extended verification scope including FE analysis of all cargo holds.
2.More transparent and consistent requirements.
3.Improved load model/ formulations based on direct wave load analysis. 4.Enhanced fatigue standard.
5.Hull Girder buckling, also including lateral stresses.
6.Compliance with GBS.
7.Increased design grab weight for Panamax and capsize vessels.
