To become a full member 30 years of experience, 1500 seagoing vessels (100gt & above), 8 million GT, 150 exclusive survyrs & 100 technical staff
Criterion
1.Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain, regularly up-date and publish its own set of classification rules in the English language covering all aspects of the ship classification process (design appraisal, construction survey and ships in service periodical survey)
2.Compliance with QSCS
3.Demonstrated ability to provide surveys of the ships under construction in accordance with the CS’s rules and periodic surveys of ships in service, including statutory surveys in accordance with IMO and flag state requirements.
4.Technical ability to contribute with its own staff to the work of IACS in developing minimum rules and requirements for the enhancement of maritime safety.
5.Contribution on an ongoing basis with its own staff to the work of IACS as described in point above 6.Sufficient International Coverage by Exclusive surveyors relative to the size of the CS’s classed fleet and its involvement in the classification of ships under construction
7.Independence from ship-owning, ship building and other commercial interests which could undermine the CS’s impartiality.
8.Extensive documented experience in assessing the design and construction of ships
9.Maintaining in electronic form and updating at least annually a register of classed ships in English Language.
10.Significant in-house managerial, technical, support and research staff commensurate with the size of the CS’s classed fleet and its involvement in the classification of ships under construction.
11.Evidence that the organization is a classification society as defined in Annex 4 to the IACS Charter (Classification Society Definition)
a.Publishes its own classification rules (including technical requirements) in relation to the design, construction and survey of ships and has the capacity to apply, maintain and update those rules and regulations with its own resources on a regular basis.
b.Verifies compliance with these rules during construction and periodically during a classed ship’s service life.
c.Publishes a register of classed ships
d.Is not controlled by and does not have interests in, ship-owners, ship builders or others engaged commercially in the manufacture, equipping, repair or operation of ships and
e.Is authorized by a Flag Administration as defined in SOLAS Chapter XI-1 and listed in the IMO database GISIS
