TYPES OF SURVY
The types of survey used in the harmonize zed system are as follows:
(I) 2.1 An initial survey is a complete inspection before a ship is put into service of f all the items relating to a
particular certificate, to ensure that the re elevant requirements are complied with and that these items are satisfactory
for the service for which the ship is intended.
(P) 2.2 A periodical survey is an inspectio on of the items relating to the particular certificate e to ensure that they are in a
satisfactory condition and fit for the ser rvice for which the ship is intended.
(R) 2.3 A renewal survey is the same as a a periodical survey but also leads to the issue of a new certificate.
(A) 2.5 An annual survey is a general inspection of the items relating to the particular certificate to ensure that they have been maintained and remain satisfactory for the service for which the ship is intended.
(EI) 1.1 Initial surveys
(EI) 1.1.4.6 examining the fixed fire-fighting system for the machinery, cargo, vehicle, special category and ro-ro spaces, as appropriate, and confirming that the installation tests have been satisfactorily completed and that its means of operation are clearly marked;
(EI) 1.1.4.7 checking that fixed carbon dioxide fire-extinguishing systems for the protection of machinery spaces and cargo pump-rooms, where applicable, are provided with two separate controls, one for opening of the g as piping and one for discharging the g as from the storage container, each of them located in a release box clearly identified for the particular space;
(EI) 1.1.5.3 examining the fixed fire-fighting system for the cargo pump-room, confirming that the installation tests have been satisfactorily completed and that its means of operation are clearly marked and, when appropriate, checking the operation of the remote means for closing the various openings;
(EA) 1.2 Annual surveys
Preparation during Annual Inspection –
* Confirm all certificate related to CO2 system is in order (Installation certificate; type approval
* Minimum level of maintenance & inspection should be carried out in accordance of manufacturer’s instructions. * Boundaries of protected space to be visually inspected & confirm that no modifications have been made to the enclosure
* All storage containers should be visually inspected for any signs of damage, rust or looseMounting hardware. * NO Cylinders are leaking, corroded, dented or bulged.
* System piping should be visually inspected to check for damage, loose support and corrosion.
* Nozzle should be inspected to ensure they have not been obstructed by the storage of spare parts or a new installation of structure or machinery.
* Manifold should be inspected to verify that all flexible discharge hoses and fittings are properly tightened and * All entrance doors to the protected speed should close properly and should have warning signs.
* All remote releasing controls should be checked for clear operating instructions & indications as to the space served.
(ER) 1.2 Renewal surveys
Preparation during Renewal Inspection –
* Confirm all certificate related to CO2 system is in order (Including Annual and biennially test certificates).
* Confirm system is in ready condition
* Confirm no modification of boundaries which would render the system ineffective.
* General visual inspection of overall system condition for damage.
* All stop valves are in closed position.
* All releasing controls are in the proper position and readily accessible for immediate use.
* Discharge piping & pneumatic tubing is intact & has not been damaged .
* All high pressure cylinders are in place & properly secured.
* The alarm devices are in place & do not appear damaged.
* Inspect all doors , hinges and locks
* Check operation of CO2 room exh blower
* Check for any unauthorised modification
- Annual test/inspection certificates
- Content verification certificate (Main as well as Pilot cylinder) (2.5 yr)
- Test record of Discharge piping and nozzle (Dry air / Nitrogen), Activating heads and pilot lines (2.5 yr) - Record of Internal inspection of all control valves (5 yr)
- Hydrostatic test certificate of cylinders (Onboard test certificate-For vessel age 10 yr or more)
- Discharge pipeline pressure test certificate (Onboard test certificate-For vessel age 10 yr or more) - Record of replacement of Flexible hose (Invoice-For vessel age 10 yr or more)
