EEXI- Energy efficiency existing ship index
Purpose- Existing vessel before 1 January 2023 has to catch up with the vessels built in phase 2& 3 ( for qualifying ships) as we are designing newer vessels with lesser emissions, these existing vessels have a service life of 20 years and they keep on polluting more. So to meet the targets of GHG emissions we have to take care of the existing vessels to that’s why EEXI compliance for existing ships became mandatory from 1 January 2023, they have to show compliance on the first annual/ intermediate/renewal IAPP survey after 1 January 2023 by installing EPL/Sha Poli and other means.
