Answer
Prior to drydocking a vessel fitted with a Framo hydraulic cargo pumping system, the Chief Engineer must ensure the following checks to prevent system contamination and physical damage:
Hydraulic Oil Analysis: Take oil samples from the main system and individual power packs to check for water content, particulate contamination, and TBN.
Purging Check: Thoroughly purge all cargo pump cofferdams to detect any leakage of cargo or hydraulic oil past the mechanical seals. Record the purging records.
System Pressure Isolation: Depressurize the hydraulic system and isolate high-pressure and low-pressure lines to the deck blocks.
Insulation of Deck Piping: Inspect all external hydraulic piping expansion joints, brackets, and pipe supports for structural integrity before they are exposed to dock stressors.
Portable Pumps & Equipment: Ensure portable Framo cargo pumps and emergency hydraulic connections are checked, clean, and stored safely.
Drainage: Drain any accumulated condensation water from the bottom of the main hydraulic oil reservoir.
