Answer
With only a few days left, the planning phase is over, and you are in the execution phase. The focus is safety, isolation, and handing over the system to the yard.
1. Emptying, Cleaning, and Gas Freeing:
1.Emptying, Cleaning, and Gas Freeing:Ensure all cargo lines, pumps, and tanks are completely stripped, washed, and gas-freed. Slops must be discharged to shore facilities or retained in a designated slop tank if permitted by the yard. The system must be certified gas-free for hot work.
Inert Gas (IG) System
Prepare the IG plant for possible survey/overhaul (scrubber, blowers, deck seal, PV valves).
Run and test IG blowers.
Ensure IG piping is drained and ready.
Decide with C/O whether to maintain inert condition or fully gas free tanks.
Pump Room & Deck Safety
Clean pump room bilges thoroughly (fire hazard).
Check and prepare pump room ventilation.
Ensure all cargo area fire fighting equipment is ready.
Secure CO2 system in pump room if required (lockout/tagout).
Prepare for hot work permits in pump room and on deck piping.
2. Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) & Blinding:
2.Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) & Blinding:Electrically isolate all cargo pumps, stripping pumps, and valve hydraulic power packs (megger test the motors now if overhauling). Insert physical blanks (spade blinds) at the manifold and between the cargo system and the engine room to prevent accidental cross-contamination.
3. Pre-Docking Pressure Tests:
3.Pre-Docking Pressure Tests:Before the yard workers touch anything, pressure test the cargo heating coils and deck steam lines. Identify any hidden pinhole leaks now so you can add them to the yard's repair specification before entering the dock.
4. Final Checks Before Entering Dry Dock
Confirm all cargo tanks are gas-free (or inert as decided) and safe for entry/hot work.
Record final soundings of all cargo tanks, slop tanks, and ballast tanks.
Ensure no free surface effect remains in cargo tanks (important for stability during DD).
Complete all safety briefings with deck and engine teams.
Lock/tag out relevant cargo systems.
Inform Dock Master/Yard that cargo system is ready for dewatering and work.
5. Physical Marking and Spares Staging:
4.Physical Marking and Spares Staging:Physically tag the specific valves, pumps, and pipe spool pieces that the yard is contracted to remove or overhaul. Bring all relevant company spares (mechanical seals, bearings, valve seats) from the store and stage them in the engine room or deck workshop, inventoried and ready to hand to the yard foreman.
