Answer
Immediate Action: Remove the ETO from the work site immediately. Do not permit them to touch any machinery, electrical panels, or control boards. Safety of the vessel and crew takes absolute precedence.
Medical & Behavioral Logging: Confine the ETO safely to their cabin under supervision. Arrange for a medical evaluation or an onboard alcohol breathalyzer test administered by the Master/Chief Mate in accordance with the company’s STCW / MLC Alcohol Policy. Log the entire timeline in the Engine Room Logbook.
Operational Contingency: Re-allocate critical electrical maintenance tasks or maneuvering watch duties to the 2nd Engineer or qualified engineers under your direct oversight. Inform the Master and DPA of the temporary operational adjustment and request a relief crew member if the individual faces company disciplinary termination.
