Answer
Once the propeller is fitted onto the tailshaft cone, the following strict quality and engineering checks must be performed before undocking:
Hydraulic Push-up Verification: Review the push-up log. Ensure the final axial advancement match the required target value calculated using the Pilgrim Nut or hydraulic jack method at the recorded ambient temperature.
Securing Key/Nut: Ensure the propeller nut is tightened to the correct torque. Verify that the locking arrangement (such as a keeper plate or locking pin) is securely welded or mechanically locked in place.
Fairing Cap (Muff): Ensure the fairing cap is fitted, filled with approved void-filling compound (like tallow or paraffin wax) to prevent seawater ingress, and the drain/fill plugs are securely tightened and tack-welded.
Blade Inspection & Clearances: Check the clearance between the propeller blade tips and the hull structure (apron), as well as the clearance between the blades and the rudder horn.
Securing Rope Guard and Cutter: Verify that the rope guard is welded back in place and the net/rope cutter is correctly positioned with the specified clearance.
Outboard Seal Check: Confirm the installation of the outboard stern tube seals. Perform a static pressure leak test on the stern tube oil system to ensure no oil leaks out and no water tracks in.
