“As per FSS Code Chapter 12, the emergency fire pump capacity shall not be less than 40% of the total capacity of the fire pumps required by SOLAS. For a cargo ship of 2,000 gross tonnage and above, it shall in no case be less than 25 cubic metres per hour. For a cargo ship below 2,000 gross tonnage, the minimum is 15 cubic metres per hour.
If the pump is diesel-engine driven, its service fuel tank must contain sufficient fuel to run the pump at full load for at least three hours. Additional reserve fuel must be available outside the machinery space of category A for a further fifteen hours. Therefore, the total fuel endurance is eighteen hours at full load.”
